Liverpool Agree Deal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Arsenal and England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The deal, rumoured to be in the region of £40 million, follows talks with Arsenal earlier today.

The England international, 24, had previously turned down a move to Chelsea making it clear that Anfield was his preferred destination.

The Ox, as he is known, started for Arsenal at the weekend as they suffered a 4 – 0 drubbing and when he was substituted he received a round of applause from Red fans at Anfield.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is the son of ex-England and Stoke City winger Mark Chamberlain, joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2011 aged 17 and has made 198 appearances for the Gunners.

So far this transfer window, Liverpool have signed Mohamed Salah from Roma for £34m, full-back Andrew Robertson from Hull for £8m and striker Dominic Solanke after his contract expired at Chelsea.

With the window closing tomorrow the Reds are said to be chasing the signatures of Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk

Speculation also continues regarding Philippe Coutinho’s future as he remains Barcelona’s number one transfer target.

It looks like being a very exciting end to the transfer window for Liverpool fans.

  1. Well it is certainly an exciting end to the transfer window for LFC! Personally, I’ve not not been that impressed with The Ox during his time at Arsenal. He is a player who has not fulfilled his talents and potential. Perhaps Juergen Klopp is the man to take him to the next level? I really hope so. It will be interesting to see what role he has for him in our midfield. Is he going to be the winger he has been for Arsenal and England so far, or will he slot into central midfield?

  2. I think it’s going to be fascinating to see how Klopp intends to use him. Central midfield is his preferred position, and it’s where he played at Southampton but Wenger has tended to use him as a winger. The guy as all the attributes to be a success but his career so far as flattered to deceive.

    • He’s only been signed as cover in case Can goes. Or just a general squad player. Can’t believe we have spent £40 million on him but welcome to LFC ox man!

      • Certainly hope we keep Can. He’s been great recently. He has the potential to be the perfect all round midfielder. I would be minded to give him the captaincy.
