Nothing unexpected here. Its the same line-up that started the first two games and includes the 5 players rested. Robertson must feel a bit disappointed after his performance on Saturday but Moreno hadn’t really ‘disappointed’ despite us conceding 4 goals in two matches he started. Unfortunately, the same 3 midfielders are starting. These 3 lacked any creativity and appeared to far up the pitch when we were ‘defending’ and too deep when we were attacking. In other words, not providing support to either defence or attack (as required). What this meant is that we often struggled to find a pass out of defence because the midfield were too far away and too static. It also meant midfield runners could attack our defence as our midfield left them to run. When we had the ball in the wings, no midfielder was busting a gut to get into the box to attack the ball.
In some cases, our 4 defenders were trying to pick up 5 or 6 attackers and when we had the ball, the only players ‘attacking’ were our full backs and wingers…
Hopefully Klopp will have discussed with the midfield what their role is. Be more decisive instead of expecting someone else to go with runners or burst into the box.
This game should have been finished away. The chances we had etc and then conceding a goal late on to give them some hope.
Come on you REDS!!! YNWA
