Half time and Liverpool have an away goal (thanks to VAR overturning an incorrectly raised ‘offside’ flag) in their favour to add to the 2 they scored at home. This leaves Porto needing to score 4 in the 2nd half.

Liverpool haven’t played well in midfield and arguably got away with some poor finishing from Porto who had far more of the ball and far more attempts. Every time the ball got into midfield, it was almost always coming back as another wave of Porto attack.

I am seriously wondering why Origi was picked. It seems his only job is to run down the line until he either loses the ball or commits a foul on a covering defender. He really hasn’t justified his inclusion. Mane and Salah haven’t really had much of an attacking threat as yet because they are dropping deeper to help the midfield. Origi seems to be the ‘out’ ball on the left wing but really isn’t linking up well or holding the ball up either.
LFC’s midfield does seem a bit swamped, struggling to find a ‘forward’ pass because of the positioning of Porto and the static Origi. Salah and Mane make runs – either to make space or to offer an out pass. A midfielder sees the run and either places the ball in an area they are running to or use the space to carry or pass the ball to other players but Origi is quite static, waiting for the ball to played in his direction and then ‘reacting’ – its making it easy for a defender on their toes to get to balls quickly and to mark a static forward. Salah and Mane are on their toes, given midfielders an option to pass into, dictating and forcing the play – not waiting and reacting.

It seems Klopp may have had enough too as Firmino has come on in place of Origi.
