Job done but there was a few spells where Liverpool were really hanging on in the game. The GK made a great save but often it was Milner throwing his body in to get a block or Lovren too – even headed one off the line to keep a clean sheet.
You would hope that these players were good enough to be available IF needed with a LONG season ahead but I think they would struggle against a Championship team. Elliott deserved MotM although it went to Curtis Jones. With the likes of Lallana, Keita and Ox in Midfield, you would hope that they stepped up, led by example but it was a few of the younger players – and Milner – who stood out the most. If anything, it shows why Klopp isn’t picking these as starters.
Next up an away trip to Sheffield for the early Saturday kick-off before Salzburg come to Anfield on Wednesday evening…
