Full-time 2-1
Robertson and Mane leave it [very] late to get 3pts. Liverpool dominated and should of won easily but they never stopped. Man City at one point had closed the gap to 3pts after coming from a goal down at home too but those 2 late goals keep the 6pt gap ahead of the top of the table clash next Sunday at Anfield.
It looked to be one of those days when Liverpool went behind and VAR was not conclusive enough to rule it out for offside and then minutes later, Firmino had a goal chalked off by VAR. Liverpool wasted chance after chance as the sought an equaliser. With news filtering through that City had turned their game around and time running out, it seemed destined that LFC could be just 3pts ahead of City and next weeks clash, a clash for top spot with City’s better Goal Difference.
Maybe the midweek fixtures and home advantage will help next Sunday as we have an extra day (we play on Tuesday whilst City play on Wednesday) and a home match against Genk whilst City have to travel to Atalanta. We know LFC have a very tough few months with fixtures and travelling but a sizeable cushion and the difference between the possibility of losing top spot on GD and potentially being 9pts ahead could work in our advantage – as long as we also get the job done in midweek without injuries and too much of a struggle.
Every week is a big week – especially if you are still fighting on all fronts, sitting at the top where everyone steps up and wants to beat you or want to park the bus and hope not to lose. However, winning games like this in the last moments as we have done a few times this season and the opposition next Sunday does make this a ‘big’ week for fans. Players will still be focussed on ‘just’ the next match where as we will be looking at games we just win at the death as pivotal moments. You know come May, if LFC do get the Title, these matches will be remembered – especially if we win by a very narrow margin.
As stated, the week ahead sees both Genk and Man City coming to Anfield on Tuesday and Sunday respectively.
Come on you REDS!!! YNWA
