Liverpool manage to hang on and get the 3pts after losing Alisson through a sending off. 2 first half goals from Van Dijk assisted both times by Alexander-Arnold was enough in the end.
Salah didn’t play well and didn’t look happy coming off. Liverpool in fairness didn’t play well at all – and haven’t for many games this year but continue to grind results giving them an 11pt lead at the moment – with LCFC to play tomorrow who could reduce that to 8pts.
Alisson’s sending off though means he will miss the Derby on Wednesday evening. We certainly can play better than we have and Klopp will need to sort that out. Still need to Qualify for the Knock out stages of the Champions League and have the Club World Cup coming up in a few weeks too. I don’t think many (if any) are expecting to progress in the Carabao cup but our big players will not be getting a rest as they will be playing in the CWC.
Its great that we are grinding results but we also need to get back to playing well. We maybe able to afford a ‘slip’ but leads can go as we have seen numerous times over the years. Winning and playing well demoralises opponents before they kick-off where as playing badly can give them hope and drive to get a result.
As stated, next up the Merseyside Derby at Anfield before travelling to Bournemouth and then the final group match away to Salzburg…
