Well we have pace, skill and work rate in Salah, Coutinho and Firmino respectively BUT I am severely disappointed in our ‘firepower’ in terms of accuracy and efficiency.
Yes we are scoring goals but we created chances to have 35 shots against Burnley but only managed 1 goal. We obliterated Sevilla too in terms of pace, chances created and shots – yet if you look at the stats, Sevilla had a much better shots on target percentage AND efficiency in scoring/converting those chances.
We are basically relying on sheer volume of shots – the theory that ‘eventually’ one should hit the target and go in, rather than being clinical and efficient. Also these ‘stats’ don’t give the full information, how often these players find another in the final third. If we had a bit more composure, accuracy and efficiency – not just in front of goal but in the final third, delivering the right final ball, and had the ‘efficiency and clinical’ finishing that other teams have, we would be scoring 5+ goals a match – even against the ‘top’ teams. If we had beaten Sevilla 6-0, it wouldn’t have flattered our performance. Instead we concede 2 ‘sloppy’ goals and waste so many opportunities – like Burnley too…
