Liverpool team news: Five changes as Szoboszlai and Muñoz start against Fenerbahce

Liverpool have made five changes for tonight’s Champions League meeting with Fenerbahce in Istanbul, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Víctor Muñoz returning to the starting line-up.

Andoni Iraola has also recalled Joe Gomez, Kostas Tsimikas and Rio Ngumoha as the Reds look to maintain their perfect record in the competition.

Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo are all named among the substitutes following Sunday’s 1-0 Premier League defeat to Arsenal.

Liverpool have won their opening three Champions League matches this season and will be aiming for a fourth successive European victory at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.

Five changes for Liverpool

Alisson retains his place in goal, with Gomez and Tsimikas replacing Ronald Araújo and Milos Kerkez at full-back.

Virgil van Dijk captains the side alongside Jérémy Jacquet in central defence.

Trey Nyoni continues in midfield with Alexis Mac Allister, while Szoboszlai makes his first start since returning from injury.

The changes are more extensive in attack. Muñoz and Ngumoha come into the side, with Bradley Barcola expected to operate through the middle.

The selection gives Liverpool pace and movement in the forward positions, although Iraola has left several experienced attacking options on the bench.

Gravenberch remains unavailable

Ryan Gravenberch misses the trip because of a heel injury, while Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitiké and Giovanni Leoni remain sidelined.

Iraola discussed the importance of Liverpool’s pressing in his pre-match team news briefing, warning that Fenerbahce’s experienced midfield would cause problems if allowed too much time on the ball.

The home side include N’Golo Kanté and Mattéo Guendouzi in midfield, with Romelu Lukaku leading the attack.

Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has been involved in preparations for the match following a recent change in Fenerbahce’s coaching staff.
