LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS
Starting XI: Alisson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Salah, Mane, Firmino
Subs: Mignolet, Fabinho, Keita, Sturridge, Shaqiri, Matip, Alexander-Arnold
Lovren Starts as Alexander-Arnold drops to the bench. Klopp appears to be looking for a stronger defensive line-up as Gomez moves to the RB position. The rest of the starting line-up is as expected with Milner, Hendo and Gini making up the midfield.
Keita makes the bunch after going off on a stretcher in Napoli. The bench also has a ‘defensive’ look to it with TAA, Matip and Fabinho as options. Shaqiri and Sturridge as the more attacking options – although Shaq is more ‘defensive’ than Salah/Mane and used to keep the ball more than to attack from the bench so far. Studge is more likely to come on if we are chasing a game and/or need to replace a tiring or injured attacker.
Its no secret that are front 3 seem to be lacking cohesiveness and certainly not posing the threat we have come to expect. Hopefully, they start fast and combine well to give us the 3pts and blow city away in the first half. Then we can soak up pressure and hit City on the break for the killer blow in the 2nd…
