LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS – SHAQIRI STARTS, HENDERSON AT CB
Team to play Man Utd: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Henderson, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Thiago, Shaqiri, Salah, Mane, Firmino
Subs: Kelleher, Milner, Oxalde-Chamberlain, Jones, Minamino, Origi, R Williams, Phillips, N Williams
Historically, the biggest match in the top flight English football and the big news is that Liverpool again start without a recognised CB as Klopp picks ‘midfielders’ Fabinho and Henderson at the centre of defence.
Thiago starts alongside Gini and Shaqiri who gets his first start in over a year (last time was back in Dec 2019) with the regular front 3.
Its certainly an attacking line up if potentially a little Vulnerable due to the CB injury crisis at the club.
Both Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams are on the bench – although do lack experience of playing in a match of this magnitude – maybe why Klopp opted to go with Hendo. Neco Williams also makes the bench with Milner a potential option for defensive cover too if necessary.
Klopp also has Ox, Jones and Minamino for midfield options and Origi too.
A win would see Liverpool return to the top of the table, albeit on Goal Difference – although City could overtake them with their games in hand, but a loss would see them 6pts behind with just over half a season to go. A massive game!!!
