Predictable line-up. I had thought Hendo would start and Milner on the bench but the rest virtually pick themselves.
The bench is quite ‘defensive’ with only Lallana and Solanke as ‘attacking’ options. No Gini either. I thought Ings may have been on the bench but Solanke gets the nod.

As for Coutinho, he is still missed. We lack that passing and vision. Fortunately, Firmino has dropped a bit deeper and often is the link man now where Coutinho would be. Tonight we saw Mane and Salah working very hard to get back, to make those tackles and then to try and be Coutinho in driving forward and picking the right passes.

Karius wasn’t really tested. Don’t think he needed to make a save but wouldn’t have got close to saving that deflected shot that went over the bar – may have had the one that went just wide covered.

VVD looked very composed and hit some fantastic balls to the corners – great long range passing. As I said, the front men will get the plaudits buts defensively we looked solid and composed.

What a win!!! Mane hat-trick with Salah and Firmino both getting a goal each too sees LFC become the leading goalscorers in the CL this season and more importantly, a win away from home in the first leg.

I said when we signed him he had a lot of potential – even though many questioned why we went for him and not a bigger name. Its taken longer than I expected for him to settle – seemed to be trying too hard at times, letting the occasion and fans get to him a bit. Maybe not helped by the people in front of him not giving him confidence in their ability.

A fairly predictable line up – especially with Can suspended. Lovren starting alongside VVD with Matip on the bench – probably the biggest surprise.
Gomez is back on the bench following injury alongside Matip and Moreno as Klopp names 3 defenders. Ox and Lallana offering midfield options and Ings the sole attacker named. - Load More
