Liverpool have made five changes for this afternoon’s Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, with Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz returning to the starting XI.
Andoni Iraola has also recalled Ronald Araújo and Milos Kerkez following Wednesday’s 3-2 Champions League defeat at Fenerbahce. The match kicks off at 2pm GMT.
Liverpool’s confirmed XI
Liverpool: Alisson; Araújo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Gakpo, Wirtz, Barcola; Isak.
Substitutes: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Tsimikas, Endo, McConnell, Nyoni, Muñoz, Ngumoha, Koumas.
Five changes after European defeat
Iraola has restored a more familiar attacking line-up after Liverpool’s disappointing evening in Istanbul.
Isak returns to lead the attack, with Gakpo and Bradley Barcola providing the width. Wirtz takes the central attacking midfield role, while Szoboszlai partners Alexis Mac Allister in a deeper position.
Araújo and Kerkez return at full-back, with Jérémy Jacquet continuing alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence.
Ryan Gravenberch is missing from the squad as he continues to struggle with a heel problem. The Dutch midfielder also missed the defeats against Arsenal and Fenerbahce.
Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Hugo Ekitike remain unavailable, as outlined in Liverpool’s pre-match fitness update.
Reds looking for a response
Liverpool arrive in south London following successive defeats to Arsenal and Fenerbahce. The return of Isak to the starting XI gives them a recognised centre-forward after Barcola was used through the middle in Europe.
Crystal Palace have problems of their own. Jean-Philippe Mateta is suspended following his dismissal against Tottenham, while Ismaila Sarr is sidelined through injury.
For Liverpool, the immediate challenge is to regain some defensive stability while making better use of their attacking options. With the international break approaching, a positive result at Selhurst Park would be a welcome response to a difficult week.
