I thought we were very impressive, in deference and attack. I like the Van Dijk – Matip pairing and in front of them Fabinho is awesome. Front three unplayable. Klopp was right we didn’t need to strengthen in the summer
I still think we needed1-2 big signings. We will see when we are playing every 3/4 days as well as travelling over Europe and participating in the club world cup too…
We haven’t really played anyone yet – not anyone we weren’t expected to beat and only playing once a week. I am not saying that we were wrong not to invest in the squad with all that money we got from CL and TV rights, 2nd in the league – as well as losing a few ‘big’ salaries off the wage bill too but that its too early to see if the squad has the depth and fitness levels to play a long hard season. Remember we had no CB’s at one point and if we lose Firmino for example, or midfield doesn’t seem to have the creativity to fill in for him – add in a Mane/Salah injury and we could very well be cussing the lack of reinforcements…
Fair points, we will really see when fixtures pileup and injuries start to take their toll. Although we have survived losing arguably the best goalkeeper in the league. I think it will be a different matter if we lose Firmino or Mane also Salah. We didn’t have them in preseason and it really showed. As soon as they returned we were back on track.
