King of the Kop

  • Jurgen Klopp made four changes to his Liverpool team with Dejan Lovren replacing the injured Joel Matip in central defence. Joe Gomez was a surprise omission but perhaps one eye was on the Champions League match […]

    • Caught the game on MOTD and was so impressed with Salah. I dread to think where we would be this season without him and his 14 goals. We are on a good run now and with Lallana coming back we are looking strong on the pitch and the bench. It’s just a pity we gave City such a head start with some amateur defending and questionable performances earlier in the season. I would give Klopp and the team 7 out of 10 so far this season.

      • Yes James I would agree with your assessment 100% with the caveat of until the Sadio Mane sending off we were well in the game be it 1-0 but well in the game. Spurs game was just recklessly ridiculous in the extreme defensively… since then we have our swagger back. Most important player for LFC is Roberto Firminio by some distance just because he presses in the absence of Lallana and make everything tick. Klopp has learned that finally we can’t go all out attacking just sit back and wait our time that’s been noticeable since the Spurs embarrassment.

  • Liverpool 3 Southampton 0!

  • Liverpool FC: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Klavan, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Coutinho, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Karius, Milner, Gomez, Sturridge, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Can, Solanke.

    Liverpool FC […]

    • Gomez benched today, surprise or what?

      • More importantly, no Matip!!! Good to see Mane is fit and I did wonder if Lallana would have made the bench.

    • Great to be back after the international break! I just hope there is no hangover. because we were on a fine run of form in November. I am also surprised that Gomez isn’t in central defence today. I’m glad Manet was passed fit and think we have plenty of options in the team and on the bench to get the 3 points!

    • King Kenny was my boyhood hero. An unbelievable player, right up there with George Best as one of the greatest ever to grace our game. I’m amazed he hasn’t got a knighthood but I have a sneaky feeling he could well do in the New Year’s honours. Long overdue. I can’t wait to get this film on DVD on Monday!

    • Have pre ordered this film and can’t wait to see it. Saw Dalglish play several times, and met him briefly as a kid. He was a very special player the likes of whom you don’t see today. For skill and influence on a game only Luis Suarez comes close in a red shirt, or any shirt for that matter. I was gutted when FSG fired him in 2012 as felt he should have been given more time. A knighthood long overdue!

  • Reds hammer West Ham as Salah strikes twice!

    • It was a job done, but our defense is still woeful imo. West Ham came back into the game at 1-2 thankfully Oxlade-Chamberlain scored to make it 1-3. What do we say about Mo Salah 12 goal’s in 17 games (all comp’s), what a savior he is when Coutinho and Mane have been absent. VvD will be signed in January imo so that’ll help our defense big time.

  • West Ham 0 Liverpool 2!

  • Simon Mignolet replaces Loris Karius in goal.

In defence Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno get the nod.

In midfield skipper Jordan Henderson misses out through injury while Emre Can […]

  • Reds edge closer to CL last 16 with victory over Maribor!

    • LFC did what they had to do really. Again frustrating 1st half like the Huddersfield game but patience prevailed again in 2nd half. What’s it with these penalties all of a sudden?. Ever since Firmino hit the post ‪vs Sevilla Anfield it’s been a bad omen. Lallana, Mane & Coutinho back for LFC after boring international break thank goodness.

  • Loris Karius, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Emre Can and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all start.

While Simon Mignolet, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge have to make do with a place on the […]

    • I would have liked Sturridge to keep his place following his goal at the weekend. Come on you Reds!

      • he scored but didn’t look deadly, like he could beat his man and looked like he would struggle to play 2 matches in a few days.
Maribor, if they give us as much space as last time, would probably have been good for Studge, but I think Firmino will do more to pressure their back 4 into mistakes.
I did wonder if Robertson may have had a chance – give Moreno a break but then Moreno has been in good form so maybe better to keep his momentum. Can’t say the other changes are a surprise – especially with Coutinho, Lovren, Mane, Lallana etc out injured…

        • Yes you are right, our injury list is worryingly long at the moment and we are a bit thin! Robertson must be a bit frustrated with the way things are going at the moment. Last season he played first-team football week in week out. I guess that is the risk you take when you join a big club. Ironic though that it is Moreno of all people who is keeping him out of the side 🙂

          • i have stood by Moreno and defended him a lot. I know he has made a few mistakes but often I felt he was a scapegoat for that final – unjustifiably. I know he made a mistake but he wasn’t the first and certainly not the only one. As good as Robertson was for Hull, he was never as good as Moreno could be. The season we got to the final, he had more assists than most as well as better stats in most defensive areas than Clyne BUT the odd mistake – often not his mistake – like being in front of the ball, giving us width and an outlet, but then appearing out of position when Hendo loses the ball easily – he gets blamed rather than Hendo.
Its good to see him given a consistent chance and the fans maybe finally see his potential

      • Yep same here. Sturridge needs more goals.

  • When the team sheet was initially released Jurgen Klopp demonstrated he had kept faith with Dejan Lovren after the humiliating defeat at Tottenham last week. But an injury to the Croatian defender in the pre-match […]

  • A big three points for the Reds!

    • Dire first half made up for with a much better second half. Klopp proved right in restoring Daniel Sturridge who made the difference with his goal because up until that point it looked like it was going be another one of those days. The league table is looking a little bit better now. Champions League next! Come on you Reds!

  • Liverpool FC: Mignolet, Gomez, Matip, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Sturridge.

Subs: Karius, Klavan, Robertson, Can, Grujic, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Solanke.

    Jurgen Klopp has made […]

    • I am amazed that Klopp is sticking with Lovren. I hope it proves to be great man management but I think his confidence is blown and maybe he could have done with sitting out a few games. Losing Coutinho to injury is a real blow, and yet again I look to Daniel Sturridge to step up to the plate and stick the ball in the net. It seems ages since he managed to do that for us.

    • Late change – Lovren is injured in warm-up and replaced by Klaven. Woodburn gets called up to the bench…

      • It never rains but it pours! Unbelievable, I don’t know who is worse Lovren or Klavan. Neither is an entirely safe pair of hands at the moment! Would like to see Woodburn get on for some minutes to see what he can do.

        • Its not ideal – I would have preferred Gomez to partner Matip and TTA come into RB. However it seems Huddersfield aren’t posing much of a threat – although if we don’t start converting our chances, we could be hit by a sucker punch…

  • Reds hammered by top 4 rivals Tottenham at Wembley

    • Our next game is against Huddersfield. I really do fear for us in that one. It’s all well and good talking about players missing, but the players we’re missing are not defenders or strikers, which is where our problems lie especially defenders

      • You can see Jürgen Klopp is raving mad, his words spoke volumes. Saying he didn’t want to create headlines by saying too much.

  • Tottenham 2 Liverpool 1

  • Liverpool Team: Mignolet, Gomez, Matip, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Milner, Can, Salah, Coutinho, Firmino.

Subs: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Klavan, Grujic, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Solanke, Sturridge.

    Gini […]

    • Milner did well in the last match and deserved to keep his place. Not surprised Hendo is back in but based on recent performances, I think he probably should have started on the bench. Maybe that break will fire him up for today.
Just hope the Wembley hoodoo affects Spurs again today and that we remember where the Goal is now we are back to playing in the EPL…
      Come on you REDS!!! YNWA

    • I’m glad Milner is in 👍 blessing in disguise. Media outlets are purring over Spurs (England biased) pray to god LFC win!!!?
